Malay name: Oregano

Characteristics
·        Majorly found in Southwestern and Western Eurasia as well as Mediterranean region.
·        Also known as wild marjoram.
·        A perennial herb, which means it can live more than two years.
·        Typical height of the plant is 20 to 80 cm tall.

Pharmaceutical uses

1.      Rich in antioxidants

-        Antioxidants contain in Oregano helps fight free radicals inside the body. Excessive number of free radicals can result in cancer or heart disease. High concentration of thymol and carvacrol, two antioxidants that can be found in Oregano essential oil prevent damage by free radicals to cells.

2.      Reduce viral infection

-        Oregano components are proven to fight off some viruses. Carvacrol and thymol can help in treating diarrhoea, nausea, and stomach pain. Herpes simplex virus can also be inactivated up to 90% of its actual numbers.

3.      Reduce inflammation
