Facts:


Citronella is a type of fragrant grass that have similar characteristics of lemongrass, but Citronella has stronger fragrant than lemongrass. It also has a long shelf life. Citronella is being used on the outside of the human body while lemongrass is edible. It has been said that Citronella came to from Sri Lanka, India and recently become well-known in Malaysia. Citronella is being used to make products such as lotion, repellent and soap.


Pharmaceutical and Medical use:

  • Citronella oil is used as a rubefacient traditionally.
  • The roots are diuretic and sudorific.
  • The extract of the Citronella oil is used to comfort the stomach and to aid digestion.
  • It is being used in mosquito repellent.
  • It is also being used in perfumery and soap-making.
  • Its leaves together with Gendarusa and pepper is used as an after childbirth wash
  • It is effective against Anopheles larvae that make Citronella an anti-Malaria
